The Story of Annie’s Annuals & Perennials
The Story of Annie’s Annuals & Perennials
Annie’s Annuals & Perennials began more than thirty years ago in the backyard of founder Annie Hayes and grew into a beloved retail and online nursery in Richmond, California. From the very beginning, Annie’s plants were grown the old-fashioned way—from seed, cuttings, and plugs—raised outdoors in the wind, rain, and sun so they arrived already “hardened off” and naturally resilient. Planting without the use of GMOs, growth hormones, and neonicotinoids.
For decades, Annie’s brought joy to gardeners looking for plants with personality—rare heirlooms, quirky cottage favorites, dazzling annuals, resilient perennials, and California natives that thrive in diverse gardens. Many of these varieties were difficult, if not impossible, to find anywhere else.
In 2024, when Annie’s Annuals & Perennials closed unexpectedly, Jill and Bill Hageman—owners of Peaceful Valley Farm & Garden Supply—acquired the Annie’s brand, website, and catalog business. Their goal is to ensure these beloved plants live on and to make sure gardeners everywhere continue to enjoy the unique natives, annuals, and perennials that made Annie’s such an iconic name.
When Can I Begin Ordering Annie's Annuals Plants?
When Can I Begin Ordering Annie’s Annuals & Perennials Plants?
A curated selection of Annie’s Annuals & Perennials is temporarily available on GrowOrganic.com. You can browse the Fall Collections now and sign up for email notifications to be the first to know when ordering opens.
Mark your calendar: Orders begin September 21.
Looking ahead, Annie’s dedicated website will relaunch in early 2026 with upgraded software, exciting new features, and a wider plant selection. Along with popular favorites and unique new varieties, the site will also offer gardening supplies to help you grow the plants you love.
Are Annie's Annuals Plants Organic?
Unless you see the logo of an organic certification agency, Annie’s plants are not certified organic. However, they are grown with the highest care—never from genetically modified or engineered seed, and without the use of growth hormones.
To manage pests and fungus, our growers rely on the least-toxic, certified organic, or naturally derived methods. In support of pollinator health, we follow a bee-friendly program and never use neonicotinoids, which are linked to colony collapse disorder.
Additionally, all Annie’s plants are routinely inspected by the county agricultural department and must meet rigorous quality and safety standards before being shipped to your garden.
How and When Will My Order Ship?
To give your plants the best possible journey, we are using the same trusted boxes and expert packing methods that Annie’s Annuals & Perennials staff perfected over the years. Each plant is carefully packed so it arrives healthy, happy, and ready to thrive in your garden.
As soon as your order ships, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking details so you can plan for your plants’ arrival.
Will I be able to access to my Annie's Wishlist?
Annie’s customer wishlists will not be available while plants are offered on GrowOrganic.com, our temporary online home.
We fully expect to restore wishlist access for customers who had active accounts once the refreshed Annie’s website is relaunched.
In the meantime, we deeply appreciate your patience and enthusiasm. Subscribe to our emails and follow us on social media to be the first to know when new plant varieties arrive and when the refreshed Annie’s website goes live.
Will you be publishing the Annie's Catalog again?
We have received many questions about the Annie’s catalog — and we completely agree that it’s a treasured resource for gardeners! While our current focus is on rebuilding Annie’s extensive plant portfolio, we look forward to reintroducing the catalog in the future.
Can I use my Annie's gift card on GrowOrganic.com?
Unfortunately, gift cards issued by the former company, ApisRegina Inc. (doing business as Annie’s Annuals & Perennials), cannot be honored on GrowOrganic.com.
In October 2024, ApisRegina Inc. made a General Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors (ABC) under California law. This is a legal process in which a business transfers its assets to an independent third party—called an “assignee”—who is responsible for liquidating those assets and distributing the proceeds to creditors who file claims.
As part of the ABC process, unredeemed gift cards, unfulfilled orders, and certain warranties became unsecured claims against the former company. These obligations did not transfer to us when we purchased selected assets of Annie’s Annuals & Perennials.
We understand this may be disappointing news, particularly if you had a gift card you were hoping to use. While we are a different legal entity from the former company, we are excited to carry forward Annie’s tradition of unique and beautiful plants.
🌿 The good news: All GrowOrganic.com coupons, loyalty points, and new customer discounts are available to every customer who shops with us.
When will Annie’s Annuals plants be available for sale at the Grass Valley nursery?
The Peaceful Valley Nursery currently features a special selection of Annie’s Annuals plants that are acclimated to the Grass Valley and Sierra Foothills region. This nursery collection is distinct from the plants available online.
Local customers may choose to browse the online collection, place an order, and select Free Local Pick-Up at checkout—or visit the nursery to explore the regional selection in person.
