As everything, they keep getting more expensive. But the pack of 20 is still less per piece than buying a pack of two at the hardware store. I put a quarter of one in each rain barrel if there are larvae swimming I don’t see any in a few days. They work. In puddles that last awhile, I throw one in just to be safe.
First one I tossed in my little pond disappeared overnight. I chocked that up to the neighborhood raccoons. Next night I put one into a jar with a perforated lid which I tied to a string so I could pull it up for a look, once in a while. It has been slowly dissolving under water ever since, the ‘coons left it alone, and the mosquito larvae disappeared a few days later. I’m happy and so are my neighbors.
We have a drainage ditch behind our home and the vegetation has grown so think in and around the ditch that it has water all year round. The county uses the same stuff as these Dunks, but in pellet form and they come around once a month (every summer). The problem is I don't think their product is heavy enough to get through the thick vines that are growing over the ditch, so I have never noticed a reduction in the Mosquito's. I did see a very significant reduction of Mosquito's after I started using these Dunks!
I have been using these for many, many years now. Every bit of standing water gets one or part of one of these. I have more that a dozen water barrels and several open animal water troughs. I use them to store Spring/Summer rain for when my garden is planted. We have an annual water ban nowadays. These mosquito dunks were an answer to the nightmare of helping the mosquito population increase in my own back yard. The region is a mosquito heave Spring through Fall. But since discovering these donuts, my backyard mosquito breeding ares are very limited. I watched the larvae die within minutes of placing parts of a donut and some crumpled up pieces in the water. They REALLY WORK! Now if I could only control the swamps around the river across the street!
I have been buying Bt donuts for years. We have two small ponds and a dry-creek that will puddle here and there. When we first bought our property we were constantly getting swarmed by mosquitoes. There was a noticeable difference after we started to use the Bt with no ill effect to the frogs. They're alive and croaking. Well worth the investment!
