Golden Midget Watermelon Seeds (Organic)
Golden Midget Watermelon Seeds (Organic)
Space-Savvy Sweetness
The Golden Midget Watermelon, a cultivar originating from Japan, presents a unique and charming addition to gardens, particularly for those with limited space. As a smaller-sized watermelon variety, it is well-suited for container gardening or smaller garden plots, catering to urban or space-constrained growers.
This petite watermelon plant exhibits a compact growth habit, with vines reaching approximately 3-4 feet in length, making it an ideal choice for smaller gardens or even large containers. The foliage is lush and dark green, complementing the diminutive fruits that reach about 3-5 pounds in weight. Its round shape, pale yellow skin with thin dark stripes, and vibrant interior flesh present an appealing aesthetic.
The taste of the Golden Midget Watermelon is cherished for its sweetness and refreshing juiciness. The flesh is a vibrant golden-orange, delivering a deliciously sweet and crisp flavor with every bite. Due to its smaller size, it ripens relatively quickly compared to larger watermelon varieties, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a quicker harvest.
Planting from seed requires warm soil temperatures, ideally around 70-90°F (21-32°C), ensuring proper germination and growth. Sow seeds directly into well-draining, fertile soil after the threat of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Providing consistent watering and ample sunlight supports healthy growth and fruit development, allowing for a rewarding harvest of these delectable, petite watermelons.

Planting & Care
Soil & Water: Watermelon prefers light, loamy, fertile, deep, well-draining soil with a pH of 5.5-6.5. Add plenty of organic matter. Water plants amply until setting out, then water more sparingly. Mulch to prevent weed competition.
Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost or sow seeds directly after frost. Set out 3-4 transplants per hill, selecting the strongest two when vines are 1'-2' long. Watermelons are large vining plants that can take over an extensive garden space. They can be trellised, but use slings to support the developing fruit.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest melons when the tendril closest to the stem turns dry and brown and the stem becomes brittle. Eat fresh, freeze flesh in a honey-based syrup, or pickle the rind.

I bought these seeds to go in bundles of packets of vegetable seeds that I will put in the Blessing Box at a church here in town about late January so people who need to can supplement the groceries they buy with a garden. I'm sure they will love them. If my budget stretches that far, I will get some for myself and let you know how I like them. I still have eight bundles worth of packets of seeds to purchase for them first, though.
Appreciate that you have this in bulk quantities. We use this as a rooting hormone and as a potting mix and soil supplement. Kelp meal is rich in minerals and micro-nutrients and contains growth hormones that support healthy root growth.
Helps me keep the ants down on my property. Place outside and keeps ants down even in your house.
I grow flats of this for my pet pigs, because of the high nutritional content. They love it. I find them waiting at the growing location every afternoon waiting for their fave. I've grown beautiful flats of pea sprouts and alfalfa for them too, but they turn up their snouts and walk away.
