Description
Description
Pre-Plant Plus 7-5-7 in the original 50 lb package is a balanced, animal-based fertilizer for preparing vegetable beds, flowers, orchards, row crops, and larger planting areas. Its crumbled formula supplies nitrogen, phosphate, potash, and calcium for planned pre-plant fertility programs across several beds or successive plantings. The bulk package reduces the need to purchase multiple smaller bags.
The product is derived from feather meal, meat and bone meal, and mined potassium sulfate. Nutrients release gradually, making the bulk package useful for several beds, orchard plantings, or repeated applications when rates are calculated from soil conditions and crop needs. Account for nutrients already supplied by compost, cover crops, manure, or earlier fertilizer applications.
- 7-5-7 analysis with 4% calcium
- Published garden rate of 2–3 lb per 100 sq ft
- Bulk quantity for farms, orchards, and market gardens and orchard programs
- CDFA approved for use in certified organic production
This organic-use approval applies to the original 50 lb package only. The 5 lb repack is not represented as organic.

My wife and I are home gardeners in Central California. Pre-Plant-Plus is the cheapest organic all-purpose fertilizer I have been able to find measured in nutrients per dollar. I've been using it for many years in my vegetable gardens as well as compost and soil amendments. I use it when planting everything, under the seed or seedlings before planting, and in the soil around. It has to be mixed into the soil (shallow depth is OK.) because it stinks if left on the surface to rot in the rain, and I have close neighbors. Then I use a liquid fertilizer blend throughout the growing season, and occasionally use single-nutrient fertilizers such as bloodmeal or bonemeal for different plants at different times. After ten years at two locations I doubt if I will ever change my method because the results have been good, depending on weather extremes of course. Twenty pounds of tomatoes per plant represents a bad year for us.
So far my plants seem to be responding nicely to the fertilizer. I like that it is pelleted, easy to work with and put onto the soil.
I am using this product with my fall veggies of lettuce, beets, chard and kale. It seems like a really balanced fertilizer for a good price. Not crazy about it being pelletized as it is a bit tricky to work in the soil.
