Planting & Care

Soil and Water: Grow in loose, well-drained soil that is rich with organic matter. Avoid growing in soils that are high in nitrogen. This will result in leafy grown and less seed production. Water regularly but avoid overhead watering.

Planting and Growing: Seeds germinate best if scarified or you can soak them overnight in water. Direct sow when daytime temperatures range between 70 and 80°F and nighttime temps. Do not drop below 65°F. For a head start, plant seeds indoors in biodegradable pots and plant directly in the garden when temperatures have warmed.

Harvesting and Storage: Beans can be harvested when they are immature and green or allowed to mature and dry on the plant. Seeds can be harvested when pods begin to split.

Minimal growth, no production

I’ve had three seasons of trying these in an irrigated 300 gal fabric pot, companion planted with Brussels sprouts, red beans and black beans, grown in local 4 seasons house blend soil, without success. The turtle Black beans and Mexican red beans have done great! However the chickpeas have only sprouted and grown minimally. And no produce.

eat these green

I love green garbanzos! For small gardeners, you can't make enough to dry and hull and make soup in a time effective way, but fresh they are awesome. Just toast on a griddle and enjoy like edamame. Also, it's a legume, so it's feeding your soil.

Very pleased!

This has been my first experience with Peaceful Valley, and I am sold! All my garbanzo seeds have sprouted and look very healthy. I look forward to purchasing more through PV next season!!

No germination

Not one of my seeds germinated?

Poor germination

I planted a packet of these and not one seed germinated. I am an avid gardener and grown dry beans before and I am perplexed at the poor germination (actually none of the seeds germinated) with these.
