Planting & Care
Planting & Care
Soil and Water: Plant in a light, well-drained, gravelly soil. Soil pH should be between 6.5–8.3.
Planting and Growing: Start indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Plant very shallow as they need some light for germination. Transplant outdoors after the last frost. Lavender likes a protected, south-facing location.
Harvesting & Storage: Usually begins to flower the second year. Harvest the flower spikes on a dry, warm sunny day, just as the flowers are about to open. Hang to dry, out of direct sunlight. In late fall, clip plants back to below the flower stems and mulch heavily.
