Performs best in the mild climates of warm interior regions, where winter chilling helps develop fruit sweetness. California's most well-known variety ripens in the winter months and holds on the tree into spring. Rich flavor, seedless fruit that is easy to peel and separate makes it a favorite variety for fresh eating.
