Potted Raspberry - Shortcake
Compact plant, sweet berries.
Mix-and-match 4 or more potted berry plants for free shipping!
Raspberry Shortcake is a compact red raspberry supplied as one live potted plant. Its dense, rounded habit generally reaches about 2–3 feet tall, making it especially useful for patios, small gardens, raised beds, and edible borders where full-size raspberry canes would take too much room. The thornless stems simplify routine care and harvesting, while medium-size berries provide a convenient summer crop for fresh use.
- Plant form: One potted dwarf raspberry plant
- USDA zones: 4–9
- Chill requirement: Approximately 800 hours
- Fruiting habit: Floricane, or summer bearing
- Pollination: Self-fruitful; a companion cultivar is not necessary
- Mature size: About 2–3 feet tall with a mounded form
For container culture, choose a large pot with generous drainage holes and fill it with a high-quality, freely draining mix. Place the plant in full sun, water thoroughly whenever the upper layer begins to dry, and never leave the root ball standing in water. A container dries faster than garden soil, particularly during hot or windy weather, so monitor moisture closely while flowers and berries are developing. Feed according to plant response and refresh the top layer of mix as it settles.
In the ground, set the crown at its existing depth in fertile, well-drained soil. The compact canes normally hold themselves without staking, although a small support can be useful in exposed locations or under a heavy crop. Raspberry Shortcake fruits on second-year floricanes. After harvest, remove only the canes that produced berries and retain healthy first-year primocanes for next summer. Thinning dead or crowded stems during dormancy keeps the center open to light and air.
This raspberry can fruit by itself, so no named pollinizer partner is required. Pollinating insects still help flowers develop evenly; avoid applying insect-control products to open bloom. See the raspberry growing guide for seasonal care, and browse our raspberry plants when coordinating harvest periods or adding other fruit colors.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

When I first got my order I was displeased to see the packaging conditions were rather unfavorable. They looked as if they were just tossed in the box. Although shipping and handling could have caused the items to shift around I feel like there are ways to secure items in a box if you really want to..
Other than the scare I had that they weren’t going to make it.
The plants have survived and are doing more than okay! These are first year plants I presume and one is already fruiting. Makes me so happy :)
The first couple weeks the leaves were beginning to yellow and brown at the edges. That made me nervous. I let it take its course for a couple weeks to see what it could be. Eventually I added Berry Fertilizer that I got from this Grow Organic site (E.B Stone Organics: Fruit, Berry, and Vine Food). And almost like night and day the leaves started to change and no more brown leaves.
So they’re heavy feeders especially when fruiting.
Have fun, experiment, and grow on.
I love my raspberry plants and as a beginner I’m proud to say I haven’t killed one yet!
I have planted them into pots and they are all growing, even without my having a green thumb. I can't wit to eat from them. There was enough information provided, even for an inexperienced grower, to give my plants what they need to flourish! I will be purchasing again from Grow Organic!
Plants arrived ready to go in the ground and are doing great!
Got my bushes last Fall/winter time frame, put them into pots and just ate my first berries!!!! There are NO thorns and they really do grow as a bush with a few taller stalks. Very pleased with this purchase. Too bad I can’t post a picture (they look so good and taste even better!!!). The raspberry baby cakes have flourished more than the blackberries (much much bushier, like leaves filling the whole pot exactly like the photo)
Very healthy looking plant. Looking for more berries to grow in containers outside the kitchen door. Can't wait for the berries!
