Raspberry Shortcake Berry: A Sweet Delight for Your Garden
When it comes to home gardening, few experiences are as rewarding as growing your own delicious berries. Raspberry Shortcake, a compact and thornless raspberry variety, offers an exciting addition to your garden.
Raspberry Shortcake Overview
Raspberry Shortcake (Rubus idaeus 'NR7') is a unique raspberry cultivar that has gained popularity among home gardeners for its compact size and easy maintenance. Unlike traditional raspberry bushes that can sprawl and require substantial space, Raspberry Shortcake is a dwarf variety, making it an excellent choice for small gardens, patios, or even containers.
Characteristics of Raspberry Shortcake
One of the most notable features of Raspberry Shortcake is its thornless nature. Unlike some other raspberry varieties that can leave you with painful pricks during harvest, this berry plant is gentle on your hands, making picking a more pleasant experience. Additionally, Raspberry Shortcake produces sweet, juicy red berries that are bursting with flavor. Its fruiting season typically falls in early summer, offering a delectable treat for your taste buds.
Growing Raspberry Shortcake
Location: Raspberry Shortcake thrives in well-drained soil with good sunlight exposure. Select a location in your garden or on your patio where the plant can receive at least six hours of sunlight daily.
Planting: When planting Raspberry Shortcake, ensure that you dig a hole deep enough to accommodate its root system and amend the soil with organic matter to improve drainage and fertility. Space each plant around two to three feet apart to allow for proper air circulation and growth.
Watering: Consistent watering is essential for healthy berry production. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plant can help retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
Fertilization: Raspberry Shortcake benefits from periodic fertilization. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring to encourage strong growth and fruit production.
Pruning and Maintenance
To maintain the compact size and shape of Raspberry Shortcake, regular pruning is necessary. Prune the canes that have fruited back to the ground after harvesting to promote new growth. In late winter or early spring, remove any dead or damaged canes. This routine maintenance will ensure a healthy and productive raspberry plant for years to come.
Culinary Uses
The sweet and tangy flavor of Raspberry Shortcake berries makes them a versatile addition to your culinary creations. Here are some delicious ways to enjoy these delightful berries:

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Got my bushes last Fall/winter time frame, put them into pots and just ate my first berries!!!! There are NO thorns and they really do grow as a bush with a few taller stalks. Very pleased with this purchase. Too bad I can’t post a picture (they look so good and taste even better!!!). The raspberry baby cakes have flourished more than the blackberries (much much bushier, like leaves filling the whole pot exactly like the photo)
Very healthy looking plant. Looking for more berries to grow in containers outside the kitchen door. Can't wait for the berries!

I bought these seeds to go in bundles of packets of vegetable seeds that I will put in the Blessing Box at a church here in town about late January so people who need to can supplement the groceries they buy with a garden. I'm sure they will love them. If my budget stretches that far, I will get some for myself and let you know how I like them. I still have eight bundles worth of packets of seeds to purchase for them first, though.
Appreciate that you have this in bulk quantities. We use this as a rooting hormone and as a potting mix and soil supplement. Kelp meal is rich in minerals and micro-nutrients and contains growth hormones that support healthy root growth.
Helps me keep the ants down on my property. Place outside and keeps ants down even in your house.
I grow flats of this for my pet pigs, because of the high nutritional content. They love it. I find them waiting at the growing location every afternoon waiting for their fave. I've grown beautiful flats of pea sprouts and alfalfa for them too, but they turn up their snouts and walk away.
Top notch fertilizer and great store
