Primestart Booster Blend
This Peaceful Valley Organics (PVO) specialty blend was designed to be used when planting bare root trees, grape vines, cane berries, or any other dormant plant. Unlike other brands of tree fertilizers, our Organic Primestart Booster Blend is crafted for the specific needs of bare root plants. Made with 100% organic ingredients of the highest quality, our fertilizer has no synthetic chemicals and no cheap fillers.
Primestart has a generous dose of long-term phosphorus because this nutrient is essential in the root zone at the time of planting, and will promote healthy flower production in the Spring. We all know that there is no fruit without flowers! Plus, to make sure that your fruit is sweet and juicy, we also added just the right amount of potassium.
You may have noticed that the nitrogen in Primestart is lower than other fruit tree fertilizers such as our PVO Orchard and Vine Mix. This is because when
your bare root trees are dormant, they do not take up nitrogen from the soil. If too much nitrogen is added in winter, it will leach into the water table instead of benefitting your plants. The nitrogen that we have added to the Primestart will release slowly so your trees can use it when they start to wake up in the spring.
We have applied our years of experience to create for you a fertilizer with just the right amount of everything. Our 3 lb bags which are the perfect size for one bare root tree, or you can use half on one the cane berries or grapes. No need to measure! For larger quantities of trees, we also sell 30 lb bags of Primestart.
Gopher Baskets
You aren't the only one excited about growing delicious fruit in your own backyard. Your young fruit trees or vines will need protection from the critters living nearby. For home gardeners and orchardists, planting bare roots in tree-size gopher baskets (15 gallon) is the best way to protect your investment. You can't go back and add the baskets later, so get some baskets before you plant! Gopher basket wire is flexible and easy to use, but strong enough to keep your underground neighbors from chomping on your baby tree roots. As your tree grows, micro-fissures in the wire allow the larger roots to burst through the basket without risk of being girdled. When they are big enough to break through the wire, they are robust enough to survive a little nibbling too.

We have just the thing to simplify the process: limb spreaders! They come in lots of different sizes so you can select the perfect ones to guide the branches of your young trees to create a strong crotch angle (45°) to help avoid broken branches when your tree starts bearing fruit.
