How to Make Lavender Wands

Discover the Joys of Lavender: Growing Tips and Lavender Wand Crafting

Lavender is a versatile and beloved plant, perfect for any home garden. Known for its beautiful flowers, fragrant aroma, and practical uses, lavender is a gardener’s delight. Whether you want to enjoy its culinary and medicinal properties or craft elegant Victorian lavender wands, this plant offers something for everyone.

Lavender Varieties

There are three main types of lavender to consider:

  • Spanish Lavender (Lavandula stoechas): This variety attracts beneficial insects, making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens.
  • French Lavender (Lavandula dentata): Perfect for mild climates or indoor growth, it thrives year-round with proper care.
  • English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia): Known for its deep purple flowers, the Hidcote variety is a favorite for its vibrant color and versatility.

Growing Lavender

Lavender is remarkably easy to grow, requiring only two essentials: full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid overhead watering, as it can lead to problems. Instead, use drip irrigation to keep your lavender healthy and thriving. Its drought tolerance and deer resistance make it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.

Crafting Lavender Wands

Creating lavender wands is a fun and rewarding activity. All you need are 18 long stems of English lavender, floral wire, ribbon, scissors, and a hot glue gun. After lining up the stems, secure them with floral wire, weave the ribbon over and under the stems, and trim the ends for a polished finish. These wands are perfect for repelling moths in closets or as decorative items in vases.

Add lavender to your garden for beauty, fragrance, and endless creative possibilities. Happy gardening, and Grow Organic for Life!
