Moisture meter inserted in garden soil

Collection: Moisture Meters

Soil moisture meters provide a quick reading that can help you compare moisture conditions before deciding whether to water. Our current selection includes compact and digital probe-style testers for containers, raised beds, houseplants, and garden soil.

Using a soil moisture meter

  1. Insert the probe into the root zone without forcing it through roots, rocks, or compacted material.
  2. Take readings in more than one location, especially in large containers or beds where moisture can vary.
  3. Interpret the result alongside the plant, soil texture, container drainage, recent weather, and the instructions supplied with the meter.
  4. Remove and clean the probe after use; do not leave the meter in soil unless its instructions specifically permit it.

A meter is one input, not a universal watering schedule. Shallow and deep readings can differ, and recently watered soil may not be uniform. Compare the display type, probe length, and operating instructions on each product page before choosing a plant moisture meter.
