BeatsPeat is a compressed coconut-coir growing medium made from coconut husk fiber. The 3-cubic-foot brick provides a compact way to store and transport coir before hydration, then expands when water is added. Coir can add water-holding capacity while maintaining air space and drainage in container blends and custom potting mixes.

Rehydrate the brick with clean water according to the package directions, loosen the expanded fibers, and blend only the amount appropriate for the crop and container system. Because changing a mix can alter moisture behavior, test a small batch and adjust irrigation to the growing conditions rather than relying on a universal schedule.
