Growing Dutch Iris Carmen Bulbs

Plant bulbs in fall, spacing them 4–5 inches apart and 3 inches deep in well-draining soil. Choose a site with full sun to partial shade for best performance. Dutch iris are frost-hardy and adapt well to various climates when planted early enough before the first hard freeze.

Climate and Soil Requirements

These thrive in USDA zones 5–10 and prefer light, sandy or loamy soil with excellent drainage. Avoid soggy areas to prevent bulb rot and ensure healthy root development.

Sunlight and Watering

Provide full sun for optimal bloom and upright growth. Water bulbs thoroughly after planting, then maintain moderate moisture during active growth. Reduce watering after bloom to allow foliage to die back naturally.

Care and Maintenance

Apply mulch in fall to protect bulbs and suppress weeds. Deadhead spent flowers to conserve energy in the bulbs. Allow leaves to yellow and wither before removing, as this replenishes nutrients for next year’s blooms.

Attractive spring blooms

Nice large blooms, exactly as pictured. I think the "Bloom Season : Summer" in the Characteristics tab must be a typo: These irises came up at the very beginning of March and bloomed quickly after.
