Cucumber Beetle Trap Kit (Pack of 2) - Grow Organic

Labeled for use against:

  • Striped cucumber beetle (Acalymma vittatum)
  • Western Striped cucumber beetle (Acalymma trivittatum)
  • Western Spotted cucumber beetle (Diabrotica u. undecimpunctata)
  • Spotted cucumber beetle or Southern corn rootworm (Diabrotica u. howardii)
  • Northern corn rootworm (Diabrotica barberi)
  • Western corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera virgifera)
  • Corn rootworm (Diabrotica virgifera)
  • DO NOT USE FOR Banded Cucumber Beetle (Diabrotica balteata).

Adults, about 1/3 inch long, start eating crops early in the season. Eggs laid at the base of plants hatch larvae that feed on roots. Up to 3 generations per year.

Damage: Serious damage to smooth skin cucurbits, melons, grasses, corn, and legumes. Tender succulent portions of plants, including flowers, can be totally destroyed. Larvae can kill young plants by eating the roots.

    Use Instructions

    Hang trap with lure attached beside or just above crop rows from a cord strung between garden stakes. Adults are attracted to the trap, land and die. Larvae are best removed by hand at night with a flashlight by very carefully removing soil from around roots and picking the larvae off. Carefully replace soil.

    Note: If you do not find adults on the traps it is unlikely larvae are eating roots.

    Disturbing Results for this Trap

    Cucumber Beetles are decimating our squash and cukes and so we did a bunch of research about how to lower their numbers and this trap was highly recommended. We didn't catch one beetle, but we caught a lot of beneficial bugs, and tragically caught a bird. A little song sparrow that I believe was eating the bugs off the sticky sheet. She got herself totally stuck, and in removing herself lost all her feathers, and died soon after. It was horrific and more than a little traumatizing. I think these traps are too large, too much surface area, perhaps if they were smaller, I don't know, but we took them all down and threw them away, couldn't bear to think about catching another bird. Put your traps up with care.

    Trap is good quality for price, but catching too many pollinators!

    The trap is what expected, but disappointed to see that I am catching more beneficial pollinator species than cucumber beetles. :(

    worked great

    Just put them up last night and I have a terrible infestation. I didn't even have them quite hung up and 2 were already stuck. I've been murdering them by hand (they are really messing up my plants!) This morning, TONS of them on the sticky stuff. Only downside...don't stand underneath them if they are up high...got it stuck in my hair! I did escape.
