I got this to use as a simple countertop compost bucket, to put my kitchen scraps in. I love it...the size means I don't wait too long to take them out, and since it's open, when I see it with scraps in it I am reminded to take it out. I don't always remember when there's a lid! It's nice and sturdy, as well, and the handle makes for easy carrying!
