Maggot Barriers - Heavier Mesh (Pack of 100)

Chemical Free Apple and Pear Protection

Maggot Barriers – Heavier Mesh offer an innovative, chemical-free way to protect apples, pears, and Asian pears from damage caused by the apple maggot fly and codling moth. Maggot barriers are a brand new concept to protect apples, pears and Asian pears from infestations of the apple maggot fly and codling moth. One easy application to fruitlets early in the season is all that is needed—eliminating the need for plastic or paper bags, traps, or pesticides. The breathable mesh allows sunlight, air, and moisture to reach the fruit for natural ripening while keeping pests out.

These reusable barriers are made of 100% earth-tone nylon with a thicker, heavier weave and reinforced seam for extra durability. The stretchable fabric fits snugly over fruit and secures easily with a drawstring, providing reliable protection all season long. Ideal for organic and sustainable growers, this simple method helps maintain fruit quality, reduce crop loss, and support healthy growing practices without synthetic chemicals.

Effort but they work

I was losing most of my apple crop to coddling moth. These barriers do work. I use twist ties to tie each bag. It’s a ton of effort but the apples are perfect at harvest, especially since I thin aggressively as I cover each apple.

Good Protection but smaller than last time I bought these

I have used these for a couple of years and they do work great to keep my fruit protected. However, I bought more this year and they are smaller in size than my previous purchase. I have one apple tree with very large apples and these will not work. I can use them on my smaller apples. Just thought I should comment on that change. For the big apples I purchased some woman's nylon socks and don't know if those will be as good, but they look the same. I will have to try them before I can recommend.

Maggot Barrier

Have used these for several years now, all organic, no sprays. Does take a bit of work up front, but worth it in the long run for pesticide free fruit. I use orthodontic elastics to hold the sacks on when I bag the fruit in early spring. I try to use elastics that are UV resistant. Did not have good luck with hair elastics.

Obvious quality control problems

I ordered 300 last year and they worked well. We dipped them in a Kaolin clay solution before using them. I ordered 200 more last week and they came with the toe part all tied up in a knot and long strings hanging from the toe. They are also about 1 1/2' shorter which makes them hard to put on the fruit. They definitely have a problem with quality control this year! I wouldn't recommend until they get the problem fixed.

Expecting them to work great

Expecting them to work great. I won’t be using these until next spring but I do expect they will work better than the pantyhose sections I tried last spring. I suspect the pantyhose weren’t heavy enough because the moths went right through them.
