These bulbs are perfect for gardeners who want an elegant, long-lasting bloom that appears when other flowers are in decline. Their architectural structure and bold coloring make them ideal for layered landscapes and vibrant floral arrangements. Though not deer resistant, they thrive in dry, well-drained soil and require very little care once established.

Key Characteristics and Benefits of Nerine Sarsiensis Red

  • Late-Season Interest: Provides eye-catching blooms from late summer into autumn.
  • Unique Form: Spider-like crimson petals create dynamic movement and texture.
  • Container Versatility: Well-suited to pots for patios or overwintering in cold zones.
  • Excellent for Arrangements: Tall stems and lasting blooms make stunning cut flowers.
  • Low-Maintenance Color: Drought-tolerant and resilient once established.

Growing Nerine Sarsiensis Red

Plant these in late spring or early summer, ensuring the neck of each bulb remains exposed above the soil surface. Choose a location with part sun and sandy, well-draining soil. These bulbs benefit from a dry dormancy period in summer and moderate watering once active growth begins. In cooler climates, lift bulbs before frost and store in a cool, dry area for winter.

Climate and Soil Requirements

Best suited for USDA zones 8–10, these prefer warm, dry summers and loamy or sandy soils. In colder areas, bulbs can be grown in containers and brought indoors for winter protection.

Sunlight and Watering

Provide part sun and water minimally during dormancy. Increase watering during active growth and bloom season, but avoid soggy soil conditions.

Care and Maintenance

Allow foliage to die back naturally after blooming. Remove flower stalks and mulch lightly if overwintering outdoors. For full growing instructions, refer to our detailed Flower Bulb Growing Guide.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Like a small lily with tentacles

We get so many compliments about this flower. It looks like a small lily with tentacles or antennae. The flowers are so bright red, they really do pop. The curling of the petals gives this a unique look that really stands out! These are supposed to multiply so I'm excited to see this flower mature.
