Description

Organic Chocolate Mint is a certified organic perennial herb with dark green-to-purple foliage and a peppermint aroma often described as having a cocoa-like note. Fresh leaves complement berries, desserts, syrups, chilled drinks, and tea, while the contrasting foliage makes the plant attractive in patio containers and kitchen gardens. Its flavor is distinctive, but it remains a mint and should be used where a strong spreading habit can be managed.

Chocolate Mint is listed for USDA Zones 5–9 and grows in partial sun, with brighter exposure possible in cooler climates. It needs no chill-hour total or companion pollinizer. Check winter conditions with the USDA Growing Zone lookup. A container is often the easiest way to keep underground stems from traveling into nearby beds.

Plant at the same depth as the nursery root ball in soil that drains while retaining moderate moisture. Water thoroughly after transplanting. During establishment, check below the surface before watering; later, adjust frequency for weather, container size, and exposure. Do not let a pot stand in water. Pinch tips to encourage branching, remove stems that root outside the intended area, and divide crowded container plants when the center loses vigor.

Harvest clean upper stems before heavy flowering for tender leaves, leaving enough foliage for regrowth. Leaves can be used fresh or dried, although drying softens some of the bright aroma. Flower spikes may be left for garden visitors or removed to emphasize leaf production. Watch for mites, aphids, rust, or mildew in dense growth and thin stems to improve air movement. Use the small-plant transplant guide for establishment and the herb harvesting guide for seasonal cutting. This page is limited to cultivation and culinary use.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
