Red Baron Peach Tree

Red Baron Peach Tree

Stunning blooms, luscious fruit

Red Baron peach trees are known for their dual appeal: breathtaking ornamental beauty and delicious fruit. In spring, the tree is covered with vibrant red double blossoms, creating a stunning display in any garden or orchard. By summer, these blossoms give way to medium-to-large red Baron peaches with golden skin and a soft crimson blush. The fruit boasts a sweet, rich flavor and melting flesh, making it perfect for fresh eating, desserts, or canning. These juicy fruit are not only tasty but also versatile for cooking. Red Baron is self-fruitful but benefits from a nearby pollinator for increased yields. While it’s relatively resistant to peach leaf curl, good care and maintenance, such as proper pruning of your dormant tree, can help minimize disease risk. Thriving in full sun and well-draining soil, this variety requires moderate chill hours and performs well in a range of climates. Ideal for home gardeners, Red Baron peach trees add both aesthetic and culinary value to your landscape, delivering beauty and bounty season after season.

Their strong tree's roots ensure robust growth, making them a popular choice among fruit enthusiasts and gardeners alike.

Characteristics of the Red Baron Peach Tree:

  1. Fruit Quality: The hallmark of the Red Baron Peach Tree is its exceptional fruit quality. The red Baron peaches produced by these trees are renowned for their mouthwatering sweetness, succulent texture, and juicy flesh. Perfect for fresh eating, canning, baking, or creating preserves, they thrive in hot climates and are ready for harvest in mid-August.

  2. Attractive Appearance: Beyond its fruit-bearing capabilities, this peach tree is an ornamental marvel. In early spring, the Red Baron Peach Trees burst into a breathtaking display of vibrant pink blossoms, creating a captivating and picturesque scene. As the blossoms fade, the tree’s lush green foliage offers shade and beauty throughout the growing season.

  3. Semi-Dwarf Growth: The Red Baron Peach Tree features a semi-dwarf growth habit, making it a manageable and space-saving choice for home gardeners. These young trees reach a moderate height and spread, allowing for easy care, pruning, and harvesting. Their strong tree's roots adapt well to various planting sites, and they thrive in well-drained, native soil with direct sunlight.

  4. Self-Pollinating: These red Baron peach trees are self-pollinating, meaning they do not require a second tree for cross-pollination. However, planting them alongside other peach or nectarine varieties can enhance fruit production. The Red Baron Peach Tree’s robust growth, supported by its root ball, ensures a fruitful yield even as the weather warms and chill hours are met.

Growing Requirements:

To cultivate a thriving Red Baron Peach Tree and enjoy its abundant harvest, it is essential to provide the following growing requirements for your Red Baron Peach trees:

  1. Sunlight: Plant the tree in a planting site that receives full sunlight, ideally six to eight hours of direct sun exposure daily. Adequate sunlight ensures vigorous growth and promotes the development of fully ripe fruit.

  2. Well-Drained Soil: Ensure the soil type is well-drained and rich in organic matter. Sandy loam or loamy soil is ideal for peach trees, as good drainage prevents waterlogged roots and reduces the risk of root rot. This is especially important for the tree's roots to thrive.

  3. Pruning: Regular pruning is crucial to maintain the tree's shape, promote air circulation, and encourage the growth of strong branches. Proper pruning also helps manage the mature size of the tree, supports a central leader structure, and enhances fruit production.

  4. Watering: Provide consistent and deep watering, especially during dry spells or when the tree is actively growing and producing fruit. Adequate moisture is essential for fruit development and overall tree health throughout the growing season.

  5. Fertilization: Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in late winter or early spring to provide essential nutrients for the growing season. This ensures the tree receives the necessary support for its hardiness zone and optimal fruit production, considering the chill hours required. Follow recommended fertilization guidelines based on soil test results to support the tree’s health and productivity.

An extremely vigorous tree that requires regular pruning and thinning. Needs fertile, well drained soils. Tend to bloom early and may be difficult to crop in late frost areas. Plant several varieties for continued supply, as ripe fruit does not store well. Susceptible to peach leaf curl, brown rot, oriental fruit moth and peach twig borer. Trees are 2 years old and should begin to fruit in their 3rd year. Browse all our peach trees for sale.

Citation Rootstock is tolerant of wet soil, induces early dormancy in dry soil, is very winter hardy, resists root knot nematodes, and produces a 12'-18' tree. By pruning you can keep your tree at any height.

Limited Dormant Tree & Plant Guarantee

* Claim deadline is June 15th

We guarantee that your dormant tree or plant will arrive in good, viable condition. If your tree arrives in substandard condition, notify us within 3 days of delivery. Please email pictures of the box, inside packaging, the tree and its roots to helpdesk@groworganic.com.  We will investigate your claim and process a request to exchange or refund the damaged product.

If your dormant tree or plant has not grown new leaves by June 15th, you may be eligible for our Limited Dormant Tree & Plant Guarantee. This guarantee provides for a store credit for the purchase price of the tree, excluding shipping. Please see the Instructions below.

Important Dates:

  • April 1st Dormant trees/plants must be planted in the ground
  • May 15th Perform scratch test, if no new leaves have grown
  • June 15th Deadline to apply for a dormant tree/plant credit

All required documentation must be received by June 15th for your claim to be considered. Claims or documentation received after June 15th will be denied, without exception. Instructions listed below

Terms and Conditions

We cannot guarantee that your tree or plant will remain alive and healthy after it is received, or bear fruit as there are too many variables in your environment that are beyond our control (i.e. soil preparation, weed and pest control, proper irrigation, chill hours, compatible hardiness for your growing zone, proper choice of pollinator, extreme weather, rodent damage, disease, etc.).

We cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide a replacement tree/plant of the same species either that same growing season or in future years. Customers are responsible for all shipping fees associated with replacement trees and plants.

If we determine that the tree you purchased directly from us is not viable, we will issue you a store credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of the affected dormant tree or plant. Shipping is not included in the dormant tree/plant guarantee. Store credits can be used to purchase any product we sell and are valid for use only until July 1st of the following year.

Historically, 98% of our dormant trees and plants grow and thrive when they have been cared for and planted using our growing guides. Dormant trees and plants must be planted in the ground by April 1st in order to be eligible for credit. If the ground in your area is still frozen solid, you may temporarily plant your tree or plant in a pot.

Potted, non-dormant trees or plants are excluded from this guarantee as they are not dormant at the time of shipment. Evergreen trees such as citrus, avocado and olive trees are not available for credit under the Dormant Tree and Plant Guarantee.

Instructions

We guarantee that your dormant fruit tree or plant will leaf out, if you care for it according to our growing guides. In the unlikely event that your dormant tree or plant does not have leaves by May 15th, follow these simple steps to apply for a store credit:

Before you call or email, please perform a “scratch test” to determine if the tree or plant is still alive. This video shows how to check for live tissue under the bark. Scratch tests need to be done a few inches above and below the graft.

Green Cambium Layer / Living Trees

If the cambium layer under the bark is green, give your tree a little more time. It is still alive, but hasn’t come out of dormancy yet. Check to make sure that it is getting the right amount of deep root water, enough sunlight and that the weather is warm enough for that type of tree/plant to come out of dormancy. Every tree has its own personality and will come out of dormancy at different times. Be sure to submit the required documentation listed below by June 15th, if it doesn’t grow leaves.

Brown Cambium Layer / Dead Trees

If the scratch test shows a brown cambium layer or if your dormant tree/plant doesn’t have leaves by June 1st, please email us at helpdesk@groworganic.com. All required documentation listed below must be received by June 15th for your claim to be considered. To be considered for the guarantee claim, all required documentation must be received by June 15th.  Incomplete submissions will be denied.

Required Documentation

  1. Order number
  2. Name of dormant tree/plant and the quantity affected
  3. Photos of each tree or plant showing:
    1. The roots (tree or plant must be pulled out of the ground)
    2. The scratch test areas
    3. The entire tree/plant

We reserve the right to not issue credit for items that have already been replaced. We also reserve the right to require photographic evidence that the tree/plant was not killed by root rot, rodent or mechanical damage.

A good low chill peach

I bought a Red Baron and an Eva’s Pride from Peaceful Valley shortly after moving into my current house, so about 10 years ago. The Red Baron is a very good peach (like at least as good as the best peaches you can get at the supermarket.) Eva’s Pride is my favorite for flavor and texture as it’s juicier and has a fuller peach flavor in my opinion. With that said, my Eva’s Pride bears late June to late July, and right around the time it’s done the Red Baron starts bearing. It’s perfect because we are mostly tired of peaches by then,, and the Red Baron is a freestone so much easier to get the fruit off the pit, especially important when processing a lot of peaches into jam or baked goods.

I received it as a 2' stick, and now it is about 15 or 16', just beautiful. The peaches are delicious! Freestone... The blossoms are gorgeous, double.
