Phacelia Seed (lb)
Useful for Forage or Hay
Phacelia tanacetifolia Annual cool season cover crop.
Phacelia is a non-legume, fast-growing broadleaf cover crop valued for its ability to improve soil fertility, suppress weeds, and support pollinators. Its fern-like foliage and striking blue flowers provide both function and beauty in the garden or field. Known for its excellent capacity to accumulate and recycle excess nitrates and calcium, phacelia enriches soil health while protecting against nutrient loss. Winter-killed at 20°F, it is well-suited for crop rotations in cool-season systems and can also be used for feed or hay in soils with low to medium nitrogen availability.
Quick to establish, phacelia germinates in just 5–10 days and thrives in a variety of soil types. Its dense growth shades out weeds, reduces erosion, and adds valuable organic matter when incorporated as green manure. The vibrant blooms are highly attractive to bees and beneficial insects, making it one of the best cover crops for supporting biodiversity and pollinator health. Easy to manage and non-invasive, phacelia is an excellent option for regenerative gardens, orchards, and small farms seeking to build long-term soil fertility.

Hard to get a good stand up but can't beat the bee feed, or the lovely color.
Great insectary and crop. This seed had a good germ rate.
Phacelia is an excellent mix with rapeseed which I use for a fall cover crop. Does a great job in improving the loamy quality of soil as well as giving bees another feed crop.
I had order phacelia from a different seed company before but nothing germinated so I was scared to try again from peaceful valley. I bought the seeds because I wanted to use phacelia as a cover crop so I sprinkled the seeds onto my soil and let the rain press them in. Now my soil is completely covered in phacelia and the flowers are just gorgeous. The germination rate was excellent. I will definitely order from here again.
I grew your phacelia for the first time this year in Central Wisconsin, as an annual. The bees loved it so they flew away from buckwheat! They were over-ridden by weeds because I didn't disc the soil properly, but my soil depth is only 3", with 35 ft. of sand underneath. I have to water, of course. I did that at night so as not to disturb my girls' foraging. My patch was too small and I didn't plant enough seeds to choke out the weeds. I'm planning to improve that next year!
