Planting & Care
Planting & Care
Soil & Water: Best growth in rich, moist soil with a good addition of compost. Ideal pH range of soil is between 5.5–7.0.
Planting & Growing: Best to direct sow in early spring or in fall about 60 days before the first frost. Barely cover seeds due to light requirement for germination. Thin to 6" apart and rows should be about 12" apart. Hot weather will cause bolting, so plant in part shade in hot regions. Pinch tops to prolong harvest.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest leaves before the plant starts to flower when flavor is best. Leaves can be used fresh or dried. Small white flowers are edible or can be used as a garnish.
