Sulfate of Potash (50 lb)

Sulfate of Potash (50 lb)

Organic Standard Fines for Potassium Supplement

This is an all-natural, moderate to fast-release, mined source of potassium (50%) and sulfur (18%) from Ogden, Utah.

  • Average use rate is 1 lb/100 sq ft or 200-500 lb/acre depending on soil analysis and crop.
  • A soil test is recommended for accurate application rate.

Sulfate of Potash (SOP), also known as potassium sulfate, or sulphate of potash, is a valuable fertilizer that plays a crucial role in promoting healthy plant growth and enhancing crop yields. Comprising essential nutrients like potassium and sulfur, this mineral-based fertilizer offers numerous benefits to plants, making it a popular choice among gardeners and farmers.

Understanding Sulfate of Potash (SOP)

  1. Composition: Sulfate of Potash primarily consists of two essential plant nutrients – potassium (K) and sulfur (S). The ratio of these nutrients in SOP is typically around 0-0-50, indicating its high concentration of potassium.

  2. Potassium's Role: Potassium is one of the three primary macronutrients required by plants, alongside nitrogen and phosphorus. It supports photosynthesis, enzyme activation, water uptake, and nutrient transport within plants. Adequate potassium levels result in improved drought tolerance, disease resistance, and overall plant growth.

  3. Sulfur's Significance: Sulfur is crucial for amino acid synthesis, protein formation, and chlorophyll production, promoting strong root development and vibrant foliage.

Uses of Sulfate of Potash

  1. Fertilization: SOP is highly beneficial for flowering and fruiting plants such as tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and fruit trees. Its potassium content improves fruit quality, size, and overall yield.

  2. Soil Amendment: SOP corrects potassium and sulfur deficiencies in soil, ensuring plants receive necessary nutrients for optimal growth.

  3. Alkaline Soil Treatment: SOP is effective in balancing soil pH, making it ideal for regions with alkaline soil conditions.

  4. Drought Resistance: The potassium in SOP helps plants regulate water movement, improving their resilience to drought stress.

Advantages of Sulfate of Potash

  1. High Nutrient Concentration: SOP delivers a high dose of potassium without additional phosphorus, preventing phosphorus buildup.

  2. Low Salt Index: SOP has a lower salt index than other potassium fertilizers, reducing the risk of soil salinity issues.

  3. Compatibility: This fertilizer blends well with other nutrients, allowing for customized fertilization plans.

  4. Environmental Benefits: SOP is a more eco-friendly option compared to chloride-based potassium fertilizers.

Why Use Sulfate of Potash for Crop Growth?

Sulfate of Potash (SOP) is an essential fertilizer that improves soil health and enhances plant growth. Its potassium and sulfur content helps with nutrient absorption, leading to higher-quality crops and better yield. With its **low salt index** and **high potassium availability**, it is suitable for various soil types and crop applications.

For optimal plant health, apply SOP according to soil test recommendations. Responsible use of this fertilizer ensures sustainable farming and better agricultural productivity.

    Delivered as Ordered

I received the 3 50lb bags as ordered. The outer container (cardboard) was fairly tattered upon arrival, otherwise all was well. It will take a growing season of use before I am able to ascertain the quality, but I do trust this company to provide the product in the quality advertised (e.g., organic and 50% potassium.

A Little Goes a Long Way

Adding this to my soil which tested very low for potassium. Pretty powdery, so wear a dust mask. Very easy to apply and can mix it in water, but need to keep stirring it to keep it in solution. We will see how my plants respond, but I am hopeful.

Saw quick improvement on my lawn

After a soil sample, I learned my soil was deficient in potassium. I bought this sulfate of potash to help give my lawn a quick boost. After application, I saw a significant boost in green color in my lawn. I will continue the application every couple of months.

One important thing to note. This is a very fine granule and doesn't spread using a traditional fertilizer spreader. It's water soluble, but it only works in a tank sprayer. I tried using a hose-end sprayer, but the amount of potash needed did not dissolve in the small hose end tank. My 2 gallon tank sprayer was able to dissolve two pounds of potash without an issue.

    Good and Easy to Use

Easy to pour out and use, used it on in a movable high tunnel that has never had any fertilizer application (outside of some compost). I'm excited to see this season develop. Only complaint is that the box it came in was squashed and some of the SOP was coming out.
