Tomuri Tender Kiwi, Male

Plant With Your Vincent Kiwi

Actinidia deliciosa

  • Zones: 8-9
  • Chill Hours: NA
  • Looks: The pollinizer for the familiar, fuzzy skinned kiwi fruit is a woody vine. With large, heart-shaped, rounded leaves and some creamy flowers in spring, Pretty ornamental plant as well as a pollinizer for the Vincent female kiwi. It needs the support of a trellis or can be trained on heavy wire as an espalier.
  • Personality: This male vine does not produce fruit.
  • Facts of Note: Kiwi vines can take off and grow up to 30', so be sure you have a sturdy trellis or system of wires to support them. Plant in full sun or part-shade, with weekly irrigation (more in hot spells) and fertile, well-drained soil. Hardy to 10-15°F. Best fruit appears if there is a winter chill below 32°F.
  • Pollination: Tomuri is the male vine that pollinizes the female vine, Vincent. If grown in the center of a group of Vincent vines, 1 Tomuri can pollinate up to 8 Vincents. If you are growing the tender kiwi vines in a line, then plant 1 Tomuri after 3 or 4 Vincents in a row.

About Kiwi Vines: Vigorous, ornamental vines must be supported and can be grown over arbors, fences, or walls. Plant 10 feet apart in full sun in regular, well–drained garden soil. Mostly pest–free. Prune aggressively every year in the dormant season. The plants are very frost tolerant in full dormancy, but can be damaged if a hard freeze occurs once the vine has started to break dormancy. It is recommended you wrap young vines in a frost blanket if a hard freeze is expected once the vine has started to break dormancy. Non–taxable. The vines are 1 year old.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Arrived alive and has been planted. Waiting for spring.

Arrived on time in secure packaging. Will have to wait for spring to see how the male kiwi does. He should be very happy because there is a crowd of female kiwis waiting for him in the South Laguna Community Garden Park. If he does well we should have our first crop of kiwi fruits at last.
