30% Black Knitted Shade Cloth (72" width, sold by the foot)

30% Black Knitted Shade Cloth (72" width, sold by the foot)

Use to Shade Plants in Hot Regions

Price is by the foot. There is a 10' minimum, and after that, order in 5' increments only.

This black knitted shade cloth is made from polyethylene with U.V. stabilizers for long life. Our customers love this knitted fabric shade cloth because the cut edges do not fray. Toughest of all shade fabric styles. Tear resistant, springy and stretchy. You can add grommets, make pipe pockets or pinch pleats, or double stitch edges if you wish.

This is the least dense of the knitted shade cloths, blocking 30% of the sunlight. See the denser versions on the lower left of this page.

Used to lower soil temperatures in the field or garden, to hasten germination of cool weather fall crops, to prevent bolting and bitterness in heat-sensitive crops (such as lettuce and spinach) and to protect against wind damage and drying.

  • UV stabilized, rot proof, this black polypropylene has a life of 5-7 years, more if stored out of the sun during periods of non-use.
  • General field guidelines: for vegetables, such as tomatoes and peppers, use 30% shade cloth in areas with very hot summers
  • For lettuce, spinach and cole crops, use 47% in hot areas, 30% in northern or coastal climates.
  • Use 50-60% for shade-loving plants.
  • Shade cloth is also used over greenhouses in summer to reduce the need for expensive ventilation.
  • Maximum shade density (80%) is often used over patios and skylights to cool people as well as plants.
  • Great for winter pool covers.

Returns accepted on un-used, full rolls only.

    Great greens

This was my first year using 40% shade shade cloth. My lettuce has not gone bitter in this heat. All of my greens still taste like spring.

    buying more!!!

Just what I needed for these hot sun days. Peppers like warm days but not hot, hot sunshine. Just ordered 40 more feet. Intensive gardening requirement.

    Great value By the Foot

I had trouble finding quality shade cloth that provided shade, yet let enough
light pass through for my newly grafted fruit trees. So it was great to find cloth
that only shaded to 30% instead of 60% or 75%. And it is wonderful to be able
to order from you by the foot and pay for exactly the size I need.

cool product for shade screen for espaliered apple

We used this for screening an espaliered apple - we built a wood structure and then suspended the screen in such a way that we can roll it up and re-use each year. Looks great!
Easy to work with once we got the hang of how to attach it to make it hang well. Will send photo.
