Scarlet’s Worm Farm – 300 Composting Worms
Scarlet’s Worm Farm, a family-owned operation based in Grass Valley, CA, is Nevada County’s local source for vermicomposting supplies. With a commitment to sustainable practices, Scarlet’s provides approximately 300 composting worms per order, making it easy for gardeners and small farmers to recycle kitchen scraps and garden waste into rich, organic fertilizer. These worms are hatched in their wormery and raised on a balanced diet of organic inputs and locally sourced coffee grounds, ensuring they arrive healthy and ready to begin composting.
Vermicomposting is one of the most effective ways to build long-term soil health. Worm castings—often called “black gold”—improve soil structure, increase water retention, and provide plants with a slow-release source of essential nutrients. They also stimulate microbial activity, creating a thriving soil food web that naturally supports vigorous root development and plant growth. Whether you’re growing vegetables, flowers, or fruit trees, worm castings are an ideal organic soil amendment.
Scarlet’s worms thrive best between 60–70°F but tolerate a wide outdoor range of 32–84°F, making them adaptable to many climates. For best results, we recommend “planting” about 10 worms per square foot in compost piles or moist, organic-rich garden beds. Over time, your worm population will expand, providing a continuous, sustainable source of organic fertilizer season after season.

I ordered a container of 300 red wigglers for our elementary school garden tower's compost column. The order was timely and the customer service I've received since purchasing the worms has been excellent.
Got the worms and discovered thee worm farm was damaged. Fed them in the container and left them while I ordered another one. Got it and put them in it as instructed. They seem to be fine. Hope they really work.
