Description
Description
Triple Crown is a thornless, semi-erect blackberry released by USDA-ARS. This certified-organic plant is supplied in a 1-gallon container. The cultivar produces large, glossy black fruit with a balanced sweet-tart, aromatic flavor for fresh use or processing.
Growing notes
- Fruiting habit: Summer-bearing; fruit develops on second-year floricanes.
- Support: Vigorous, semi-erect canes benefit from a sturdy trellis and seasonal pruning.
- Site: Plant in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil with regular moisture.
- Pruning: Remove spent floricanes after harvest while retaining new primocanes for the following crop.
This is a live potted plant; height, leaf-out, and dormancy vary by season. Fruit set, yield, and harvest timing depend on climate, site, pollination, and care.
Browse berry plants or compare options with the Berry, Vine & Crowns Characteristics Chart.
Growing range: Source tags list USDA Zones 5–9 and approximately 300–500 chill hours. Compare both figures with local conditions before planting. Install a trellis while the potted plant is young, then separate new primocanes from fruiting floricanes as the planting develops. After a cane has fruited, remove it at the appropriate seasonal time and retain healthy new canes for the following crop. Use the existing berry-plant collection and comparison chart to review related cultivars, then plan enough row space for training and seasonal pruning.
Triple Crown’s thornless canes simplify harvest and training, but vigorous growth still needs deliberate management. Tie canes so light reaches both sides of the row, and keep the crown area free of competing weeds. Container-grown plants may arrive at different stages of leaf-out depending on season; dormancy or limited top growth alone does not indicate poor condition. Inspect roots and stems promptly after arrival and follow care guidance appropriate to current weather.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Blackberries arrived in excellent condition, and are growing very well! Thank you!
I received a stick with leaves on it. Should change the picture to what you’ll actually be receiving.
