Description
Description
Cesare’s Canestrino di Lucca is an Italian heirloom tomato with deeply pleated red fruit and a rich balance of sweetness and savory flavor. Chef Cesare Casella brought this variety to the United States from Lucca, Italy. Its dense, relatively dry flesh makes it particularly useful for sauce, while the distinctive ribbing gives sliced fruit plenty of character on the plate.
Choose this tomato when you want a harvest suited to both cooking and fresh eating. The fleshy fruit works well in salads where a less watery tomato is welcome, as well as in sauces that showcase its flavor. Indeterminate vines need sturdy support, sun, and a long warm season, with fruit maturing about 90 days after transplanting. Start indoors before your planting season, then transplant after frost. Each packet contains 25 certified organic seeds.
