Chemlali Potted Olive Tree
Tunisian Oil Olive with Upright Growth
Chemlali olive
Chemlali (Olea europaea 'Chemlali') is a Tunisian oil olive with vigorous upright growth, a densely branched crown, and small fruit that progresses from green toward violet-red as it matures. The listing is for one live potted standard tree; nursery size changes through the growing season.
- Plant form: One potted olive tree
- Organic status: Not represented as certified organic
- Origin: Tunisia
- Primary use: Oil
- USDA zones: 8–9
- Exposure: Full sun
- Soil: Fast-draining ground; avoid a persistently wet root zone
- Pollination: A compatible olive flowering at the same time may increase fruit set
Establishment in warm climates
Chemlali is suited to heat-rich olive districts, but a young potted tree still needs regular water while new roots move beyond the container profile. Plant with the top of the root ball level with the surrounding soil and water deeply after backfilling. Expand the irrigation area as the root system grows rather than concentrating water against the trunk.
Its dense canopy benefits from selective thinning. Retain well-spaced structural branches, remove damaged or rubbing growth, and preserve enough leaf area to support the crop. Where the tree remains container-grown, use a stable vessel with open drainage and plan periodic root and canopy maintenance. Mature height, bloom, and bearing depend on site, pruning, winter weather, and tree age.
Fruit maturity and resources
Fruit color changes during ripening, but the best harvest point for oil depends on the desired balance of yield and character. Crop load, water, temperature, and processing speed also affect results. Raw olives are intensely bitter and need a proven curing method before eating. See the olive care guide, browse the olive tree collection, or compare other potted fruit trees.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
