Description

Sungold tomato seeds grow an indeterminate cherry tomato with clusters of golden-orange fruit. The current product description identifies Sungold as an F1 hybrid. Plants continue producing along extending vines and need sturdy support as they grow.

Sungold tomato seed details

  • Type: cherry tomato
  • Fruit color: golden orange when ripe
  • Growth habit: indeterminate
  • Life cycle: warm-season tender annual
  • Sun: full sun
  • Start: indoors for transplanting after frost danger

Sowing and growing

Start seed in a protected setting using the temperature, depth, spacing, and maturity directions on the packet. Provide strong light after emergence, harden seedlings off gradually, and transplant after frost danger into warm, well-drained soil.

Install a trellis, cage, or other support at planting. Check soil moisture at root depth and adjust watering to weather and plant growth. Harvest color, fruit size, flavor, and maturity vary with temperature, light, moisture, and nutrition. Because the variety is described as an F1 hybrid, saved seed may not reproduce the same traits.

Planting & Care

Soil & Water: Tomatoes love fertile soil rich in organic matter. Add plenty of compost prior to planting. Soil pH is preferred between 5.5-7.0. Soak the soil 4"-6" deep at 7-day intervals.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost and thin to 2" apart after the first true leaves appear. Before transplanting after the last frost, harden off the plants by placing them outdoors for a few hours to start, increasing the amount of time each day until they are accustomed to a full day of sunlight.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest when individual fruits give slightly under finger pressure; the shoulders may not have changed color yet.
