Description

Organic Flamenco cauliflower start

Flamenco cauliflower is a certified-organic live transplant for a cool-season garden. It develops a compact central curd surrounded by protective leaves and offers mild flavor for fresh eating, roasting, steaming, soups, gratins, and mashing. Beginning with a potted start reduces the indoor seedling stage and makes final spacing easier to establish.

  • Plant form: Live potted vegetable start in an approximately 2.75-inch pot
  • Organic status: Certified organic by CCOF
  • Crop type: Cool-season annual harvested for the central head
  • Catalog zones: 3–10; schedule planting around local frost and heat
  • Estimated maturity: Approximately 50–85 days under suitable conditions
  • Light: Full sun, with heat protection helpful where temperatures rise early
  • Pollination: Not relevant when cauliflower is harvested for its curd

Transplanting and head development

Harden the start to outdoor conditions before transplanting if it has been protected. Set it into fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter, firm the soil around the root ball, and water thoroughly. Maintain even moisture; sharp swings in temperature, water, or fertility can interrupt steady growth. Leave enough spacing for broad leaves and airflow, and mulch to reduce weeds and moderate the shallow root zone.

Inspect regularly for cabbage worms, aphids, slugs, and other brassica pests. Early insect netting or row cover can reduce pest access when used correctly. As the curd develops, keep it clean and protected according to local conditions. Harvest while the head is firm and compact, cutting it with a clean knife before sections loosen. Maturity varies with weather, transplant stress, and care.
