Description
Description
Organic Red Chesnok seed garlic, also known as Shvelisi, originated near the village of Shvelisi in the Republic of Georgia and entered wider collections in the 1980s. “Chesnok” is a transliteration of a Slavic word for garlic, while Shvelisi points to the source location. This certified organic Purple Stripe is celebrated for colorful bulbs, edible scapes, and exceptional roasting flavor.
Red Chesnok is a natural choice for growers who dream about roasting their own garlic. The creamy bulbs reveal vivid violet striping and red-fuchsia clove skins, making the harvest as beautiful as it is flavorful. Each bulb typically holds 8–10 neatly arranged cloves, and the plants send up edible scapes first. Keep a few bulbs labeled for a side-by-side roast—the famous sweetness is the trait that turns many gardeners into repeat growers.
Raw cloves offer clear garlic heat and a rich, lingering finish, but roasting is where the variety is especially famous. Slow heat brings forward sweetness and a smooth texture suited to bread, potatoes, sauces, soups, and spreads. Use it whole in roasting pans or separate cloves for confit. Small raw amounts also give pesto, salsa, and dressings a colorful, flavorful lift.
When growing Red Chesnok, plant the cloves in fall where winter cold can support strong Purple Stripe development. A sunny, well-drained bed and even spring watering help the bulbs form without stress. Take the scapes while tender, then let the plants finish until lower leaves brown around mid-summer. Lift gently to protect the colorful wrappers, and cure in a shaded place with generous air movement before setting aside bulbs for roasting and storage.

Limited Seed Garlic Guarantee (When Planted by November 15th)
Claim Deadline is 45 Days from Purchase or Delivery. (Claims placed after December 31st will be denied.)
What We Guarantee
Our only guarantee is that the seed garlic we sell will germinate, provided you follow the steps listed in our Garlic Planting & Growing Guide. This guarantee is only available to customers who purchase their seed garlic directly from us.
What We Cannot Guarantee
We cannot guarantee that your garlic will remain alive & healthy, or sizes up properly, as there are too many variables beyond our control to be able to do so (i.e. soil preparation, fertilization, weed and pest control, temperature control, irrigation, etc).
How to Request a Credit
If you encounter a significant lack of germination of your garlic (over 50%), please contact us within 45 days of delivery. If we determine that your garlic had a significant lack of germination, we will issue you a credit (not a refund) for the purchase price of your garlic (excluding shipping).* This 45-day time frame is meant to allow you up to 2 weeks to plant your garlic, and up to 4 weeks to check for signs of growth.
(*) We reserve the right to not issue credit for items already replaced. We also reserve the right to require photographic evidence of the lack of germination of your garlic.

Heads were big with many large cloves. I am anticipating a great outcome in early summer 🧄
I planted a row of red chesnok. The color is stunning, excellent quality.
Beautiful seed garlic
This is my go-to garlic. It's reliable, delicious, and beautiful.
I planted this garlic way too late, and yet it is sprouting like crazy. The bulbs were fresh, smelled great, and I'll definitely plant this garlic again. The products from Peaceful Valley are always wonderful.
