Jump Start Electric Heating Cable - 48 ft
Gently Warms the Soil for Faster Germination
Looped 4"-6" below the soil surface, this cable works like an underground sun to heat the soil and speed germination and seedling growth with gentle bottom heat. Works best in an enclosed, insulated, and covered planting box. Not designed to work in outdoor beds.
- Built-in thermostat designed to maintain 77-85°F
- Cable plugs directly into 120V outlets and uses 140 watts
- Designed to prevent shock danger in wet conditions
Use approximately 4 linear feet of cable per sq ft. Protect the cable by laying a wire mesh screen over it before covering it with soil. (If you want to test the cable, put it in the fridge for an hour, take it out of the fridge, then plug it in. The cable should warm up.) Caution: Never allow the cable to cross or touch itself while plugged in. This will cause the heating cable to malfunction.

I used this in my sweet potato hotbed to help the seed potatos to sprout and protect the sprouting plants.
Using it at night, been real warm lately. Doing its job, Aces in my book. The greenhouse has been staying 15 degrees higher than outside. My neighbors thinking about getting one.
This product made a huge difference in my backyard greenhouse. I needed a heater for my seedlings before the last frost, but the seed mats were so expensive and would have cost me hundreds to heat all my seedlings. I purchased this cable and wrapped it around my seedlings' pots and it kept them warm enough in the greenhouse even when the outside temp dropped to 0F.
First off I used a single 48' unit in 4X8 beds. Compared to an unheated bed raised the soil temp 10 degrees F. The information suggests 4 feet for each CF Im using .66 and is sufficient for my use and did not want to use that much electricity.

from 9167 reviewsI grow flats of this for my pet pigs, because of the high nutritional content. They love it. I find them waiting at the growing location every afternoon waiting for their fave. I've grown beautiful flats of pea sprouts and alfalfa for them too, but they turn up their snouts and walk away.
