Organic Cayuse Oats Seed (lb)

Adds Organic Matter to the Soil

A cool season, annual cereal grain. This cool-season, annual cereal grain is widely used to build organic matter, suppress weeds, feed livestock, and serve as a nurse crop for legumes. It germinates in 7–10 days, reaches 6 feet tall, and matures in 60–80 days. Montezuma Red Oats (Avena sativa 'Montezuma') mature earlier than California Red (Avena sativa 'California Red'), though with less biomass. California Red develops earlier than Cayuse White (Avena sativa 'Cayuse'), while Cayuse produces up to 14% more organic matter due to its leafy growth. Out of stock for the season, but Monida Oats (Avena sativa 'Monida') are an excellent substitute with finer stems, ideal for hay or forage. Application rate: 90–160 lb/acre. No inoculant needed.

  • Application Rate: 90-160 pounds per acre
  • Inoculant: NA
  • Germination: 7-10 Days
  • Plant Height: 6'
  • Days to Maturity: 60-80 Days
  • Uses: They can be used for increasing organic matter, livestock feed, as a nurse crop for legumes and in areas where they winterkill-as a smother crop against weeds.
  • Facts to Note: Montezuma Red Oats mature a few weeks earlier than California Red but has less biomass. California Red Oats develop earlier than Cayuse White, but Cayuse White Oats have more leaf growth and therefore provide more organic matter, sometimes up to 14% more.
