Onion Sets Dutch - Red Baron (Pack of 75)
Fine Strong Onion Flavor
Red Baron onion sets are a robust and flavorful choice for gardeners seeking vibrant red onions with excellent storage potential. This long-day variety thrives in northern and central climates, where extended daylight encourages uniform bulb development and rich, crimson skin.
These premium Dutch-grown sets produce medium-sized onions with firm white flesh tinged with pink or purple highlights and a fine, strong flavor. Perfect for fresh use in salads, salsas, and garnishes, they also hold up beautifully in roasted and sautéed dishes. Their reliable growth habit makes them well-suited for organic and sustainable gardening practices.
Plant the sets 1 inch deep and about 4 inches apart in fertile, well-draining soil. Red Baron onions perform best in full sun with consistent moisture and are hardy in USDA Zones 3–9. Their early maturity delivers a uniform harvest that cures and stores exceptionally well, providing a steady supply for months.

- White flesh is very firm and tinged with pink or purple highlights
- Fine strong flavor, vigorous
- Harvest young plants for use as scallions

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.

Exactly as described, started spouting in days. Outstanding!
I was lulled into complacency by Peaceful Valley's reputation and the name of the site (groworganic!). These onions do not appear to be organic when the package is examined. Additionally, they don't have a specific variety on the packaging from the manufacturer: the just say "Red", but are advertised as "Red Baron." Wonder what the other red varieties say. They do say Non-GMO, are grown in The Netherlands, and appear to be reasonable quality, but no obvious difference to what is carried at the local big box. I understand (now that I go back and look) that there is no specific claim of "organic" in the item description but, again, I made the folish assumption based on where I was shopping that I was getting organic sets. I found the site by googling "organic onion sets" and since I recognized the name I thought I was in good shape. No results yet since they are just planted, so we'll see what we get. I also ordered Yellow Stuttgarter and will post similar review over there. Thanks!
Good value for the price. Lots of bulbs in the bag, ran out of room in the bed and had to find other places to plant them. Plan on leaving some to develop larger bulbs and using most of them for scallions.
