Planting & Care
Soil and Water: Collards need regular water and rich soil. Feed with a good compost or fertilizer, such as fish emulsion, once a month.
Planting and Growing: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Move outdoors just before the last frost. Can also direct seed in the fall 3 months before the first frost. Collards taste best after a frost. Can overwinter in most areas, hardy to zone 7. Cover with light row cover as a barrier to cabbage worms.
Harvesting and Storage: Harvest leaves from the bottom up as the plant grows.
