Organic Cramer's Plum Nigella Seeds

Enchanting Pods for Premium Floral Design

Create moody, romantic bouquets straight from your garden with Cramer’s Plum Nigella. This unique heirloom brings together airy, finely cut foliage, soft early blooms, and then the real showstopper—dramatic plum-colored seed pods that look like tiny lanterns floating above the stems. Whether you grow for market bouquets or home arrangements, this nigella adds texture, depth, and a touch of wild charm to any design.

Flowers begin as delicate, misty blooms in shades of white to soft lavender, nestled in a cloud of feathery leaves. As the season progresses, those blooms transform into sculptural pods streaked with rich plum and green. Fresh, they lend a whimsical, almost botanical-illustration feel to arrangements; dried, they hold their color and structure beautifully for months. Plants are easy to grow, cool-season hardy annuals that thrive in organic gardens with very little fuss.

Did You Know?

Nigella is often called “love-in-a-mist” because its flowers and pods appear to float in a haze of fine foliage. Historically grown in cottage gardens across Europe, it has been treasured for centuries as both a charming ornamental and a dependable cut flower that bridges the gap between spring blooms and full summer color.

Planting & Care

Soil and Water

Plant in well-drained, moderately fertile soil and a location with full sun. Water regularly to establish, then maintain even moisture without keeping the soil soggy.

Planting & Growing

Direct sow seeds as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, covering lightly, and thin to allow good air circulation. For a longer harvest window, make successive sowings every couple of weeks.

Harvesting & Storage

Harvest fresh stems when flowers are just opening or when pods are fully colored but still firm. For dried use, cut stems once pods have matured, then bundle and hang upside down in a warm, dry, well-ventilated space to cure.

Guarantee

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
