Oats were sowed densely in a couple of trial beds in the middle of October. Germination has been excellent with no bare patches, and the plants have grown around 6 inches tall. We have had 33 inches of rain since then, along with some small sized hail, and they are holding up well.
I haven't planted any yet but they look great.
Zone 5B. Planted Organic Monida Oats with shelling peas as trellis for peas. Worked well as trellis until heavy rain and wind blew down one section, another storm blew down second section. Got 32 inches tall in 80 days. Organic matter was my main goal so I'm extremely happy. Might try more sturdy Cayuse White Oats as trellis for peas another time.
