Very sweet large berries
Mix-and-match 4 or more potted berry plants for free shipping!
Organic Caroline Red Raspberry is supplied as one live, certified-organic potted plant. This vigorous primocane raspberry produces large, medium-red berries with good flavor and moderate firmness, offering a useful late-summer crop when many floricane raspberries have finished. Caroline is cold-hardy, productive, and well suited to gardeners who want a red fall-bearing raspberry that can be managed with a straightforward annual pruning system.
- Plant form: One certified-organic potted raspberry plant
- USDA zones: 4–8
- Chill requirement: Approximately 200 hours
- Fruiting habit: Primocane, or fall bearing
- Pollination: Self-fruitful; no separate pollinizer is necessary
- Harvest: Generally late summer, depending on climate
Choose a full-sun location with fertile soil that drains promptly after rain or irrigation. Caroline is susceptible to root problems in poorly drained ground, so avoid low areas and improve drainage before planting. Water the nursery pot thoroughly, loosen only tightly circling outer roots, and set the crown at its existing depth. Maintain even moisture during establishment and fruit development without keeping the root zone saturated. Mulch around the planting to limit weeds and moisture swings while leaving the crown exposed.
For one concentrated late-summer crop, cut every fruited cane to ground level during winter dormancy. New primocanes will emerge and carry the next harvest, making old and new wood easy to manage. In regions with a sufficiently long growing season, gardeners may retain healthy lower portions after the fall-bearing tips finish. Those sections can provide a smaller floricane crop the following summer and should be removed after fruiting. A simple wire support keeps vigorous canes upright and improves harvesting access.
Caroline can set fruit without another cultivar, although bee activity during bloom supports complete berry formation. Follow the raspberry growing guide for transplanting and pruning, and compare other harvest seasons in the raspberry collection. Organic certification applies to the nursery plant as sold; maintaining organic practices afterward depends on the gardener’s soil amendments and pest-management choices.

We guarantee the perishable items we sell to be in good, viable condition when we sell them. Perishable items include, but are not limited to, garlic bulbs, flower bulbs, seed potatoes, onion sets & transplants, potted or bare root trees, vegetable crowns, etc. If your perishable item arrives in substandard condition, take photographs and please contact us within 3 days of the purchase date (or delivery date) and we will provide you with a refund of the purchase price (excluding shipping costs), or a replacement. Accordingly, we urge you to open any boxes marked as ""Perishable"" immediately upon receiving them and inspect the shipment thoroughly (do not crack open heads of garlic, we do not accept claims on cracked garlic). Because some perishable items can deteriorate very quickly, we cannot accept any claims beyond the 3-day time frame as it becomes too difficult to determine if these items were delivered in substandard condition, or if they turned into such substandard condition because of having been improperly cared for or stored once delivered.
