Black Gold Perlite (8 qt)

Black Gold Perlite is an eight-quart horticultural amendment made from heat-expanded siliceous volcanic rock. Its lightweight, porous particles are used to increase air space and drainage in potting mixes, seed-starting media, and rooting blends. Because perlite is mineral rather than organic matter, it does not decompose like composted ingredients.

Blend perlite evenly with the selected growing medium at the rate appropriate to the crop and container. For seed trays, the product record describes filling with a soilless mix, sowing the seed, applying a light perlite layer, and bottom-watering until the surface is moist. Perlite can also be layered around dormant bulbs during dry, cool, dark storage.
