Soybeans are versatile legumes that have gained popularity for their nutritional value and various culinary applications. Organic Soybean Edamame seeds are a great addition to any garden or sustainable farming operation.

Understanding Organic Soybean Edamame

Soybean Variety:

Organic Soybean Edamame seeds belong to the edamame variety. Edamame is a Japanese term that refers to young soybeans, typically harvested while still green and tender. They are known for their mild, nutty flavor and are often enjoyed as a healthy snack or a delicious addition to various dishes.

Benefits of Growing Edamame*

  • Rich in Nutrients: Edamame is renowned for its high nutritional content. These green soybeans are an excellent source of protein, dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are particularly rich in vitamin K, folate, and iron, making them a valuable addition to a balanced diet.

  • Low in Fat and Calories: One of the reasons edamame has gained popularity is its low-fat and calorie content. They provide a satisfying and nutritious snack option for those looking to manage their weight and increase their protein intake.

  • Heart-Healthy: Edamame contains compounds known as phytoestrogens, which may have cardiovascular benefits. Consuming edamame may help lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Growing Organic Soybean Edamame

  • Planting Season: Organic Soybean Edamame seeds are typically planted in the spring, once the soil temperature has reached a consistent 60°F (15°C) or higher. This ensures optimal germination and growth.

  • Soil Requirements: Edamame plants thrive in well-drained, fertile soil with a pH level between 6.0 and 6.8. It's essential to provide them with full sun exposure for at least 6-8 hours a day.

  • Planting Depth: Plant the seeds about 1 inch deep, spaced approximately 2-3 inches apart within rows. Leave 18-24 inches between rows to allow for adequate growth and airflow.

  • Watering and Maintenance: Edamame plants require consistent moisture throughout the growing season. Water them evenly and avoid letting the soil dry out completely. Applying a layer of mulch can help retain moisture and control weeds.

  • Harvesting: Edamame pods are ready for harvest when they are plump and firm. This typically occurs 70-90 days after planting. Harvest by gently pulling the pods from the plant. To maintain their freshness and flavor, blanch the harvested edamame in boiling water for a few minutes and then cool them in an ice bath.

Working in clay soil

Edamame is tough to grow in the high-clay soils in my area, many fail. This year they are doing well.

Great Harvest

We have purchased products from here before and have always been satisfied. The seeds we have planted for our summer garden have already to started to sprout. Can’t wait till they grow a little bigger and it warms up enough to plant them in our outside garden.

Very Productive Producers

These grew like crazy. I did not have any issues with germination, although they were a little slow to come up. They are loaded with beans this summer!

Very Poor Germination Rate

Planted 2 packs of these beans in my garden on 3/3/16. Today is 3/29/16 and to date, only 11 beans have sprouted. Each pack supposedly contains 25 seeds so I planted around 50 seeds so just about a 22% germination rate. Very disappointed.
