Honeyrock Melon Seeds (Organic)
Honeyrock Melons - Sweet Deep-Salmon Flesh
Melon - Honeyrock - Cucumis melo
Tender Annual Heirloom. Honeyrock melons grow up to 6" in diameter and 3-4 lb. Tough gray-green skin with a coarse open net protects thick, sweet deep-salmon flesh. Resistant to fusarium wilt. Expect 5-7 melons per plant, for home garden and local market in northeast US and southern Canada. Developed at Michigan State and was an All American Selection in 1933. Also called Sugar Rock.
Did You Know? Melons are in the same gourd family as cucumbers, pumpkins, and squash.
Soil & Water: Melons like moderately rich, well-drained soils with plenty of phosphorous and potassium and a pH of 6.0-6.8. For flavorful fruits, melons need moderate water as seedlings, low water before transplanting, moderate water during growth, and low, even water during fruit development.
Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 2-3 weeks before the last frost or seed directly after the last frost. Melons need plentiful heat to develop; use plastic mulch and row covers in cooler climates.
Harvesting & Storage: Melons are ripe when the rind changes color to yellow and gentle pressure separates the stem from the vine. Melons can store in the refrigerator for about a week.
