Evergreen Bunching Onions, scientifically known as Allium fistulosum, are a versatile and easy-to-grow variety of onions that add flavor and freshness to a wide range of dishes. These perennial onions are prized for their mild, onion-like taste and the fact that they can be harvested at various stages of growth, making them an excellent choice for gardeners and cooks alike.
Characteristics of Evergreen Bunching Onions:
Mild Flavor: Evergreen Bunching Onions have a milder flavor compared to traditional bulb onions, making them an excellent choice for those who prefer a more subtle onion taste. Their mildness allows them to be used raw in salads, garnishes, and as a topping for various dishes.
Long Stalks: These onions are known for their long, slender, and hollow stalks, which can grow up to 2 feet in length. The entire plant, from the white root end to the dark green tops, is edible and used in various culinary applications.
Perennial Growth: Unlike traditional onions that are typically grown as annuals, Evergreen Bunching Onions are perennials. This means they can continue to produce year after year if properly cared for, providing a consistent source of fresh green onions.
Cultivating Evergreen Bunching Onions:
Location: Plant Evergreen Bunching Onions in a sunny location with well-drained soil. They can also tolerate partial shade but thrive in full sun.
Planting: These onions can be grown from seeds or sets (small bulbs). If planting from seeds, sow them directly into the garden in early spring or late summer, spacing them about 1 inch apart in rows. If using sets, plant them about 1 inch deep and 2 inches apart.
Soil Preparation: Prepare the soil by adding organic matter like compost or well-rotted manure to improve fertility and drainage. The soil pH should be around 6.0 to 7.0 for optimal growth.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water deeply when the top inch of soil becomes dry to the touch.
Thin as Needed: If you've planted from seeds and the seedlings are too close together, thin them to ensure proper spacing. Thinning is essential for healthy plant development.
Harvesting: You can start harvesting Evergreen Bunching Onions once they reach the desired size. Harvest the green tops and use them in your favorite dishes. If you want larger, more robust onions, allow some plants to continue growing, and they will produce thicker stalks and possibly develop small bulbs.
Culinary Uses of Evergreen Bunching Onions:
Fresh Garnish: The dark green tops of Evergreen Bunching Onions are often used as a fresh garnish for soups, salads, and various Asian dishes. They add a mild, onion-like flavor and a pop of color to your culinary creations.
Stir-Fries: These onions are a staple in stir-fry recipes, providing a mild onion taste that pairs well with vegetables, proteins, and sauces.
Grilling: Evergreen Bunching Onions can be brushed with olive oil and grilled whole or in sections, adding a delightful smoky flavor to your outdoor meals.
Salsas and Dips: Chopped green tops of these onions can be added to salsas, guacamole, and creamy dips for extra flavor and freshness.
Pickling: If allowed to mature, the white roots can be pickled and used as a tangy and crisp addition to sandwiches and salads.
Evergreen Bunching Onions are a versatile and flavorful addition to any garden and kitchen. Their mild taste, long stalks, and perennial growth make them a valuable asset for both novice and experienced gardeners. Whether you use them as a garnish, in stir-fries, on the grill, or in various culinary creations, Evergreen Bunching Onions are sure to elevate the flavors of your dishes while providing a consistent source of fresh, homegrown goodness.

Planting & Care
Soil & Water: Onions prefer loose, fertile, friable, well-drained soil with plenty of added organic matter. Their shallow root system is sensitive to fluctuations in water. Mulch to conserve water and control weeds.
Planting & Growing: Sow seed in spring, or plant in fall to overwinter in the north. Bunching onions are hardy and survive winter temperatures as low as -30°F. If wintered over, divide clumps and spread out in spring. These hardy onions are slow-to-bolt and are PR, thrip, and smut resistant. Bunching onions go to seed each season, so they will reseed year after year if you keep the weeds out.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest bunching onions as soon as they're large enough to eat.

Great germination.
Great seed quality.
Always happy with Peaceful Valley Products!!!
Shipping was quick.
Everything without hassle.
These seeds sprouted in 3 days, as always, a great product from Peaceful Valley!
These are awesome. We planted some in the Spring, and while the deer and rabbits have had a field day with them, the survivors look amazing. They are growing strong and happy. Its so exciting, that these will multiply, and self seed. I am a HUGE fan of things that only need planting once.
Yes, you can go online and get cheaper seeds like I did with the bunching green onions, but I had close to zero germination. This season I'm spending a tiny bit more but I know from past experiences with GrowOrganic I'll have a much better germination rate.
There were more seeds in this packet than I anticipated! LOVE green onions, can't wait to grow these!

from 9167 reviewsWorking great
I bought these seeds to go in bundles of packets of vegetable seeds that I will put in the Blessing Box at a church here in town about late January so people who need to can supplement the groceries they buy with a garden. I'm sure they will love them. If my budget stretches that far, I will get some for myself and let you know how I like them. I still have eight bundles worth of packets of seeds to purchase for them first, though.
Appreciate that you have this in bulk quantities. We use this as a rooting hormone and as a potting mix and soil supplement. Kelp meal is rich in minerals and micro-nutrients and contains growth hormones that support healthy root growth.
Helps me keep the ants down on my property. Place outside and keeps ants down even in your house.
I grow flats of this for my pet pigs, because of the high nutritional content. They love it. I find them waiting at the growing location every afternoon waiting for their fave. I've grown beautiful flats of pea sprouts and alfalfa for them too, but they turn up their snouts and walk away.
Top notch fertilizer and great store
