Windowbox Mini Basil Seeds

Compact Culinary with Ornamental Qualities

Miniature basil varieties like this Italian-imported Windowbox type offer a compact and fragrant addition to any herb garden. With their neat, dome-shaped form and tiny aromatic leaves, these plants thrive in small containers, windowsills, and border edges. Growing just 8 to 10 inches tall, they provide continuous harvests of tender, flavorful basil ideal for everyday cooking.

The 1/2-inch-long bright green leaves are packed with classic sweet basil flavor and essential oils, perfect for pesto, garnishes, or fresh herb toppings. Their small size and slow-to-bolt nature make them excellent for gardeners who enjoy frequent harvesting without taking up much space. These miniature plants are also visually appealing, adding a tidy structure and vibrant color to compact garden beds or decorative containers.

Start seeds indoors in early spring or direct sow once the danger of frost has passed. Basil prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and moderate watering. Regular pinching will promote bushy growth and increase your leaf yield throughout the season. With its manageable growth and outstanding aroma, Windowbox Mini Basil is a great choice for culinary growers, urban gardeners, and anyone looking to keep fresh herbs close at hand.

Loved it!

My partner and I tried this mini-basil and loved it. We let one grow into a little bonsai tree that sat on a windowsill in our kitchen. It had a lovely shape, gave off a delicious fragrance if you brushed up against it, and lasted about a year before it started getting ragged-looking. (It is a bit of a nuisance, though, to cook with the tiny leaves.)
