Watercolor Silks Dwarf Dahlia Flower Seeds

Watercolor Silks Dwarf Dahlia Flower Seeds

Holland Bouquets

Dahlia - Watercolor Silks (Heirloom) -

Perennial Grown as Annual - Bred in Holland, these lovely, decorative dahlias offer 1.5 - 2' plants with full double, silky flowers in luminous watercolor shades of rosy coral, rich apricot, soft salmon, buttercream, and glowing lilac. Their beautifully patterned petals and painterly colors make natural bouquets int he garden and for indoor bouquets. Perfect for large areas, borders, or showy containers, these strong, long-lasting performers bloom from summer through fall. Plants produce tuberous roots just like those offered in nurseries.

Soil & Water: Amend soil with compost or aged manure before planting in full sun. Feed plants monthly.

Planting & Growing: To start directly outdoors, wait until weather is warm and settled and night temperatures are above 50°F. Sow groups of 2 - 3 seeds 1/2" deep and 8" apart in well-worked, fertile soil. Cover lightly and keep soil moist, but not soggy, while awaiting germination. When well-established, thin carefully, leaving single seedlings 8" apart, so plants have room to grow. Keep well-weeded and evenly watered.

Harvesting & Storage: These dahlias will produce little underground tubers after their first season of bloom; select your favorite blossom colors when in bloom, then multiply those plants by digging up the tubers in late fall to replant the next spring.

Planting Depth: 1/2"
Germination: 7-14 Days
Height At Maturity: 12-18"
Sun/Shade: Full Sun
Spacing After Thinning: 8"
Approx Seeds per Pack: 70 Seeds

Jealous of my neighbor

A friend has been growing these, and it's time I got started. Such beautiful flowers.

Beautiful, but way larger plant than expected!

I am new to Dahlia growing...and, these are lovely plants. However, the plant is getting MUCH LARGER than I expected from the instructions on the packet. I have a single plant that is about 2 1/2 feet tall by 2 1/2 feet wide, with gorgeous Rose colored flowers blooming everywhere. It was planted with the most space to grow. The more crowded plants are still getting 1 to 1 1/2 feet wide. I am having a difficult time seeing how they could be planted 4 to 6 inches apart in a container...or even 8 inches apart in the garden. I am NOT COMPLAINING. I am just saying...might want to plan to give them space to do their thing!
