Root Guard Gopher Basket - 3 Gallon

The Root Guard 3-Gallon Gopher Basket surrounds the developing root zone of a newly planted shrub, berry, vine, rose, perennial, or young tree. Open size is approximately 12 inches in diameter by 9 inches deep. The basket uses 20-gauge steel wire with 3/4-inch hexagonal openings and galvanized sheet-metal seams; the wire is hot-dip galvanized after weaving to improve corrosion resistance below ground.

Shape the basket before excavating, then dig a planting hole wide enough to prevent the mesh from folding inward. Add soil inside the base until the root ball will sit at the correct depth. Center the plant without forcing the roots, and backfill evenly inside and around the wire so it remains supported. Leave the green upper wire above the soil surface as directed to reduce overland entry. Irrigate thoroughly to settle soil through the mesh, then keep mulch from covering the crown or exposed rim. A basket is a localized barrier rather than a complete property treatment, so monitor nearby ground for new mounds and maintain other exclusion or trapping measures when needed.
