Russian Tarragon Seeds (Organic)

Nice Anise-Flavored Herb

Russian Tarragon is a hardy, perennial herb well-suited for home gardeners and small-scale farmers seeking a flavorful, low-maintenance addition to their kitchen garden. Native to Europe, Asia, and the western United States, this variety grows upright and can reach up to 4 feet tall, producing slender, aromatic leaves with a distinctive anise-like flavor.

Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, Russian Tarragon grows reliably from seed and adapts well to diverse climates. Once established, it tolerates drought and requires little care, making it ideal for sustainable and organic gardening systems. The leaves are commonly used fresh or dried to season tomato dishes, mushrooms, poultry, and other rich or oily foods. It’s also a classic ingredient in herbal vinegars, salad dressings, salsas, and hot sauces.

Start seeds indoors or sow directly in spring after the last frost. The plants benefit from occasional pruning to encourage bushy growth and may return year after year in mild climates. While Russian Tarragon is not as pungent as French Tarragon, it’s prized for its vigor, adaptability, and culinary versatility.

Note: Overindulgence during pregnancy is not advised.

Planting & Care

Plant prefers full sun to part shade and dry soils, and will withstand growing in alkaline soils. Plants grown in poor soil are more aromatic and make better spice than those grown in rich soil. Sow seed on surface and press in hard, then keep warm and evenly moist until germination, which takes 4 days to 2 weeks. Thin and transplant seedlings, grow in pots for a month or two until the plants are big enough to transplant out to the garden. Space plants 2 feet apart. Once established, they may be propagated by root cutting.
