Bury it out of reach of rodents

This was my first time trying out drip tape, and I got this one, most distance covered for your buck. In hindsight I might have done better to get a thicker tape, I am not sure. I did not initially bury the drip tape lines, and within a few weeks I found myself patching, then replacing lines that had been chewed on by rodents--rabbits, voles, maybe the neighbor's goats too! I do not know if thicker tape would have quite the same problem or not, but I ended up spending a lot of time going back over to repair and replace the lines I had initially installed on the surface. If you bury it right from the time you set it up, where critters have a harder time finding it, then this 5 mil tape is ok. Either way you always want to have some of the repair couplings (drip tape loc sleeve couplings) on hand for rodent damage (or human!).

Aside from that the 8 inch emitter spacing and flow rate have been ok on my heavy soil even in the summer time. Have to seed right up next to the line for direct seeding, but I have gotten germination with sunflowers, millet, pumpkins, squash, etc. as long as I seed it close to the line.

Consider your slope too. I did not think I even had much slope, but the top of my rows get a lot less water than the bottom.

One of these days I will get it right. Lol.
