Description

Trifolium alexandrinum Cool-season legume cover crop.

Berseem Clover, also known as Egyptian Alfalfa, is a highly productive annual legume valued for forage, hay, silage, and green manure. Establishing quickly in just 5–10 days, it grows up to 2' tall and is tolerant of poor drainage and a wide range of soils. Cold-hardy to 20°F, it thrives in full sun and produces palatable, protein-rich forage that livestock readily consume. When well nodulated, it can contribute nitrogen-rich growth while also adding organic matter and supporting soil structure; actual nitrogen contribution varies with stand growth, soil conditions, and management.

With favorable temperatures, fertility, irrigation, and cutting management, Berseem Clover may support multiple cuttings during the growing season. Best planted in late summer to early fall, it supports rapid fall growth and provides high-value forage well into the cool season. After incorporation, allow the residue time to begin decomposing before planting sensitive, small-seeded crops.

  • Application Rate: 15-20 lb/acre, 1 lb/1500 sq ft, 0.5 deep
  • Inoculant: No additional inoculant is needed. The legume seed is already coated with the appropriate Rhizobium bacteria to support nodulation and nitrogen fixation.
  • Germination: 5–10 Days
  • Plant Height: 2'
  • Uses: Pasture, hay, silage, green manure
  • Facts to Note: Nitrogen contribution and cutting frequency vary with nodulation, climate, fertility, irrigation, and management. Best growth occurs in full sun with appropriate cutting intervals.

Note for certified organic growers: Nitrocoated seed is conventionally grown, non-GMO seed with no fungicide or insecticide seed treatment applied before coating. The coating contains certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder, and an OMRI-approved peat-based inoculant, applied through an OMRI-approved process on a dedicated Nitrocoated-seed treatment line.

Made to order. Minimum order quantity is 50 pounds.
