Berseem Clover - Nitrocoated Seed (lb)
A Protein-Rich Plant That Livestock Love
Trifolium alexandrinum Cool-season legume cover crop.
Berseem Clover, also known as Egyptian Alfalfa, is a highly productive annual legume valued for forage, hay, silage, and green manure. Establishing quickly in just 5–10 days, it grows up to 2' tall and is tolerant of poor drainage and a wide range of soils. Cold-hardy to 20°F, it thrives in full sun and produces palatable, protein-rich forage that livestock readily consume. A vigorous nitrogen fixer, it can contribute 200–300 lb of nitrogen per acre, while also improving soil fertility and structure.
With proper management and irrigation, Berseem Clover can yield up to six cuttings per season, making it remarkably productive for rotational grazing or hay systems. Best planted in late summer to early fall, it supports rapid fall growth and provides high-value forage well into the cool season. Note: Residual effects may temporarily suppress small-seeded crops for up to one month after incorporation.
- Application Rate: Drill or broadcast 15–20 lb/acre, or 1 lb/1,500 sq ft; sow 0.5" deep
- Inoculant: None needed, seed is nitrocoated
- Germination: 5–10 Days
- Plant Height: 2'
- Uses: Pasture, hay, silage, green manure
- Facts to Note: Fixes 200–300 lb nitrogen/acre. Highly palatable forage. Productive with up to six cuttings per season. Best growth in full sun with regular clipping.
Note to Certified Organic Growers from Manufacturer: Nitro-coated seed is conventionally grown seed that has had an organically accepted seed coating applied to it. The seed itself is conventionally grown, non-GMO, and untreated (no fungicides or insecticide seed treatment applied) prior to coating. The seed coat consists of certified organic powdered limestone, an organically approved binder (glue), and peat peat-based inoculant that is also OMRI-approved and organically accepted. The seed coating is applied in a OMRI-approved process in a separate treatment line that only produces Nitro-coated seeds.
Made to order. Minimum order quantity is 50 pounds.
