Buckwheat Seed (lb)
Draws Out Insoluble Phosphorus from the Soil
Fagopyrum esculentum is a fast-growing warm-season broadleaf cover crop for filling short gaps between spring and fall plantings. In warm soil, buckwheat germinates quickly and develops a leafy canopy that shades exposed ground. This rapid coverage makes it particularly useful for competing with summer weeds and protecting otherwise bare beds or fields.
Buckwheat is also a practical choice when there is not enough time for a long-season cover crop. It can begin flowering and reach maturity in approximately 30–45 days, allowing growers in warm climates to make more than one planting during the summer. Its white flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects, while the plant’s growth helps capture nutrients and produce tender organic matter that breaks down readily after termination.
Plant after frost danger has passed and conditions are reliably warm. Buckwheat is sensitive to cold and should not be used where frost is expected during establishment. For green manure, mow or incorporate the stand at early flowering and before mature seed develops. Timely termination prevents unwanted reseeding and keeps the stems succulent enough to decompose efficiently. Because buckwheat is not a legume, it does not fix atmospheric nitrogen and does not need Rhizobium inoculant.

Can't get enough of this buckwheat seed. Excellent price. Bees love it!
This is a great cover crop for South Texas. Helps me keep beds covered during the heat of summer when not much else can grow. Bees love the flowers and easy to terminate. Definitely noticed improvement in my beds after ward. Love that I can buy in bulk for a reasonable price. Makes it easy and budget friendly to do cover cropping on our small homestead.
I was THRILLED to find buckwheat somewhere in Albany. I used to buy it at Nichols Nursery every year but they’ve moved to Philomath. I like the rapid growth of buckwheat and no fuss care of the plants. I used to grow it when I raised honeybees. It not only gave them food but fed my garden. Very easy crop to grow and I like the way it will reseed itself, I use it every year.
Grow Organic has so many affordable prices on cover crops, when I saw that they had buckwheat available I definitely added it to my cart, and bought. I will be using this LW for chicken feed and every other place I saw didn't have such great prices
I purchased a bulk order of this as a cover crop for some areas of my yard that I'm reworking. These guys popped up instantly and have been growing FAST. Excellent germination, excellent growth. I will absolutely be using buckwheat again.
