I use these for my squash and anything that doesn't like their roots disturbed when they are transplanted. They have worked really well for me. I'm in Utah (very dry) and I put then in a plastic pot to stop them drying out so fast. Roots grow through the pot with on problem.

The roots penetrated just like the box said they would. The starts I potted up into the cow pots grew big and beautiful and the roots definitely mad their way through the walls. They smelled a little, tiny bit initially when they got wet but after that they were odorless.
